.Tosin claims late husband’s family sacked her, 2 kids from home <Sleeps with children in markets <‘No, it is not true’

From WOLE BALOGUN, Ado-Ekiti

THE once rosy relationship between a young, heavily pregnant widow identified as Tosin and her late husband’s family, the Olorunfemis, has hit the rocks. This followed some ugly developments, part of which was her husband’s sudden death on December 2, 2015.

While Tosin alleged that her husband’s family sent her and her two kids out of her matrimonial home six months after the demise of her husband, the family is claiming that her infidelity must have dispatched their son, Lere, into an early grave. She said she and her two kids have been roaming the streets of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, begging since January, and sleeping inside market places.

Disclosing that she lost her husband to a motorbike accident on December 2, 2015, the young mother said life has been miserable for her and the kids since the tragedy. She revealed that her late husband was a commercial motorbike operator from the Yahaya family in Italoke of Oke-Ikere in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Government.

Tosin alleged that she was sent packing with the children on the grounds that her father did not commiserate with their (her husband’s) family after the demise of their son and was not also present at his burial:

“Since January this year I have been sleeping in front of a lock-up shop inside the Oja Oba market. I go about begging for alms to feed myself and my children. Every morning, I buy sachet of water to wash our face, feet and hands. We have not taking our bathe since January.” The Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Adekumbi Obaisi, promised to take up her case and contact her husband’s family. When the family was contacted by the ministry, an elder brother of the deceased, Afuye, told the family’s side of the story: “It is not true that we sent Tosin and the children out of the house. The truth is that she left the home herself and we have been searching for her. She once moved out of the matrimonial home before the death of her husband.

“It is not my late brother that is responsible for her pregnancy. My brother didn’t die through Okada accident. He had died in a strange manner at the hospital after suffering from an unusual stomachache.

“When Lere was alive, he once told me that somebody used the police to arrest him claiming he (Lere) snatched his wife.” He alleged that Tosin did not show up at the family house after she learnt of her husband’s death until after three months when her pregnancy had become obvious: “In spite of this, we accepted her and were making efforts to feed her and the kids, before she bolted away again.”

Meanwhile, Tosin and her kids are currently in the custody of the Social Welfare Department of the ministry where they are being taken care of. Obaisitold Daily Sun that it was finding way of resolving the issues for the sake of the children.
